RF MICRONEEDLING VS. TRADITIONAL MICRONEEDLING
Microneedling is a popular treatment that can safely and effectively address a host of skin concerns. However, there is now an innovative procedure that combines microneedling with radiofrequency energy, taking microneedling to the next level. There are a number of reasons why radiofrequency microneedling needs to be your go-to option for full skin rejuvenation today.
Radiofrequency Microneedling
RF microneedling adds radiofrequency energy to the traditional microneedling procedure. When we combine these two modalities, you get the BEST possible patient outcome.
The RF energy is delivered via small insulated needles, which create micro channels. These channels act by bypassing the skins surface (the epidermis) into deeper layers (the dermis). As these micro channels are created, it delivers radiofrequency into the dermal layer.
In addition to the benefits seen with the micro-injury provided by the microneedles, RF microneedling also delivers RF energy deep into the dermis, further enhancing skin tightening and skin rejuvenation. The RF energy heats the underlying layers, causing constriction and tightening of the skin, as well as the stimulation of collagen and elastin production. Because the RF energy is delivered so deeply, it can produce faster, more dramatic results. Mark Ginella from Radiance Medspa discusses his experience with radiofrequency microneedling, “The RF energy can be controlled to adjust for the depth of penetration far deeper than traditional pens, the time the energy is delivered as well as how much energy is applied.”
Most patients will achieve the best patient outcome with (3) treatment sessions, spaced about four to six weeks apart. The number of treatments will depend on how well the patient responds to the treatment and the severity of the skin issues being addressed.
Traditional Microneedling
Traditional microneedling uses a special device that creates micro-injuries in the skin, stimulating the body’s own healing response. The needles tear through the epidermis – the top layer of the skin – creating tiny puncture marks. Patients can expect to see bleeding with the duration of treatment. Hand-held battery power pens and rollers, by design, tear and snag the skin making the treatment uncomfortable. “There is no guarantee of sterility or proper barrier from one patient to the next with these hand-held devices,” says Mark Ginella, Radiance Medspa.
In a reparative effort, collagen and elastin production are initiated, which effectively tightens skin and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. In some cases, microneedling may include the infusion of platelet rich plasma (PRP) into the created holes, allowing for deeper penetration of nutrients and growth factors for more effective results.
Why choose Vivace® RF Microneedling over Traditional Microneedling
