The Product:
SoME® Skincare + PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) is an innovative functional cosmetic that can be used post-minimally invasive aesthetic procedures and/or daily topical treatment for photodamaged skin. The patented compilation of 22 electrolyte ingredients is formulated with autologous PRP to provide a stable functional biochemical milieu for platelet growth factors up to 120 days. (1,2)
How Does it Work:
The staff draws 20mL of whole blood from the patient and processes the blood using FDA cleared centrifuges and PRP separation tubes. Three milliliters of the PRP are added to the vehicle serum. The product is now ready for use. The serum can be applied to skin following laser, radiofrequency microneedling, dermabrasion, IPL, along with facial peels and other dermatologic procedures. The patients take the product home to be used twice daily. The patient stores the product at home in a refrigerator set to 4C°. After removing the product from the refrigerated 4C°, skin temperature activates and degranulates the platelets to release hundreds of various bioactive molecules, including growth factors, chemokines, cytokines, enzymes, nucleic acids, and the highly publicized exosomes.
Exosomes are small cell membrane vesicles produced by essentially every cell in the body. Sometimes, they are referred to as endogenous lipid nanoparticles (30-150nm). These exosomes are a physiological delivery system, their size permits percutaneous penetration into the epidermis via the stratum corneum. Exosomes are highly variable in size and are specialized to the contents they support (e.g., cytokines, chemokines, growth factors, enzymes, and nucleic acids). They play a critical role in cell-to-cell communication.
Platelet Rich Plasma has a large number of bioactive molecules, including exosomes. The exosomes encapsulate the PRP’s key growth factors i.e., Platelet Derived Growth Factor, Transforming Growth Factor beta, vascular – Endothelial Growth Factor, Epidermal Growth Factor, Insulin-Like Growth Factor, Fibroblast Growth Factor, and transports them to the target tissue, signaling fibroblast proliferation, leading to neocollagensis and neoelastiongensis, the first steps necessary to provide a regenerative skin surface. All the bioactive molecules operate in well-orchestrated signaling sequence providing biochemical/cellular regulation leading to homeostasis in the regenerative tissue.
SoME® Skincare + PRP alpha granules serve as a large reservoir for PRP exosomes. Because SoME® Skincare is autologous, there are no concerns about cell cultures of unknown origin or synthetic exosomes. Questions regarding GMP reproducible manufacturing can become a concern with alternate products.
Exosomes continue to garner significant amount of basic and clinical research interest in tissue regeneration including their role in the skin. A twice-daily PRP home-use skincare product provides the patient significant exosomes with a plethora of growth factors to repair photodamaged facial skin.
